Videoconferencing in Action
This page is intended to provide links to websites
that give information about the uses of videoconferencing in all
sectors of education. Some of the links provide specific
examples. This page will be under constant review, with new links
and information being added as it becomes available. If you come
across a link that you think might be of interest to other WVN users,
please e-mail the WVN Project
Administrator with the details.
A series of case
studies on the use of the Welsh Video Network has also been
produced.
Further information is also available at www.rsc-wales.ac.uk.

Global-Leap
was launched on Tuesday 29th February 2000 with a worldwide, 16
hour videoconferencing event. The event was organised to
demonstrate the power of videoconferencing as a resource which can
be used to deliver exciting lessons to children around the
world. The Global-Leap
website has lots of information on what's going on in the
schools' sector. It includes a timetable of videoconferences
to join covering specific areas of the school curriculum, as well
as contacts in schools throughout the UK that are looking for
videoconferencing partners. A book called
Video
Conferencing in the Classroom: Communications Technology across
the Curriculum is available on
the website which details a range of curriculum developments
involving videoconferencing as viewed through the eyes of Devon
Curriculum Services and a substantial number of collaborating
schools. The book is divided into 10 sections, including
several case studies. |

Becta (British
Educational Communications and Technology Agency) is the
Government's lead agency for ICT in education. The Becta
website provides a wealth of information on videoconferencing and
other applications of ICT in schools. The site also has a useful
section called
Leaps across the globe, which illustrates some examples of
the use of videoconferencing and gives links to further information
and more case studies. |
|
|
| Becta also provide a website
giving ICT advice. Included here is an 'Ask an
Expert'
section, and in May 2002 the Expert focussed on
videoconferencing and the educational opportunities this
technology can provide. The section includes a question
and answer session. Although designed primarily for
schools, the site has a wealth of ICT information relevant to
any educational setting. |

|
| Schoolsconnect.com
is aimed at finding
and linking schools with videoconferencing equipment.
Schools are able to register their requirements on the website for
prospective partners to see, so that links can be made between
schools around the world. There are also sections designed
to help students and teachers get started with projects that
could lead to international contacts. |
