Each studio will need all of the following:
A wall clock
A telephone
Conference table, desks, chairs (non-swivel)
Curtains along at least two adjacent walls
6 double power sockets
Sufficient lighting
ISDN-6 connectivity
One IP connection to the CODEC
(preferably directly to the WVN switch - this switch has been provided)Two IP connections via the LAN for the PC and an occasional laptop
You may also wish to consider:
Carpet
A secure storage area (behind curtains for example)
Floor ducts for wiring from equipment to conference table
Air conditioning
A contribution of £10,000 per studio is being made available to institutions towards the cost of converting rooms for studio use. It is advisable for all institutions to keep accurate records, receipts, etc. for any items of expenditure.
ISDN-6 installation: £700 per studio has been made available to institutions to cover the costs of ISDN installation.
ISDN-6 call charges: A fund has been set aside for the FE sector to offset the costs of ISDN charges for the two years of the project. All FE institutions received this contribution in April 2001. The amount received is directly proportional to the number of students registered at the institution.
ISDN-6 line rental: this will have to be met by each institution.
The temperature in the studio should be comfortable for the participants. You may not need air-conditioning, or you may wish to delay a decision regarding installing air-conditioning until you have used the room for a while and gained experience in the studio environment.
