Frequently Asked Questions

Studio Commissioning

This information has been left in the FAQ for the benefit of any institutions or organisations purchasing further WVN studios.

When was the equipment  delivered?

The equipment for the first studio at each institution was delivered during May 2001; A further round of deliveries to each institution took place during late June, 2001.

What should institutions do when it arrives?

The equipment will be delivered on a number of pallets, each 1000mm x 800mm. All of the packages should be moved (unopened) immediately to the studio or a temporary secure area. A number of items, especially the monitors, are very heavy and safety precautions should be observed when moving these items. Many of the packages contain delicate items and should be handled with care.

A WVN Studio Delivery Checklist form is provided on this web site, Please print a copy of the checklist in advance, for use during the delivery checking process, and so that you know what to expect. Ensure that all packages are accounted for, and clearly write all of the serial numbers on the paper copy of the checklist. Then enter them as soon as possible on the web-based WVN Studio Delivery Checklist form. In order to acknowledge receipt of the equipment and indicate any problems with delivery, immediately fax the completed Studio Delivery Checklist to:

Deirdre Magoris, WVN Administrator, Fax: 01792 295851. Tel: 01792 513475

Title of the equipment will not be passed to institutions until and unless the completed checklist has been faxed to the WVN Administrator.

N.B. The packages should remain unopened until the WVN Support Team arrives to commission the equipment. The Support Team will check the delivery in detail before installation and deal with any anomalies.

Do institutions need to do anything before commissioning?

All building and electrical installation work should have been completed. It is not necessary for all furniture to have arrived, although at least one desk and a few chairs should be made available. Advice on positioning the interactive whiteboard and the projector (using the standard kit provided) will be provided during commissioning.

Please do not attempt to unpack or install any equipment until WVN support personnel are present to help you through the commissioning process.

When will the equipment be commissioned and ready to use?

As soon as an institution indicates that their studio refurbishment has been completed the studio will be provisionally placed on the commissioning timetable on a first-come, first-served basis. The position on the schedule will be confirmed once the institution has faxed back the Equipment List, following delivery of the equipment. Site contacts will then be contacted to establish a suitable date for studio commissioning, which will be confirmed nearer the actual date.

Institutions will need to make arrangements for the subsequent wall-mounting of the interactive whiteboard and the ceiling-mounting of the projector, in the locations recommended by the Support Team and agreed with the site contacts. All of the equipment should then be ready for use.

What should sites do on the day?

At least two members of the Support Team will be undertaking the commissioning. The institution's personnel will also be involved in installing the equipment, under the guidance of the Support Team.

Please ensure that the person who will be technically responsible for the studio is available for the whole day. It would be wise for institutions to nominate at least one other technical person to be present during commissioning. The network equipment will be installed at a later date. It is vital that the person responsible for the institution's network is present during this process.

Should sites register studios with the JVCS or book a QA test?

No, the studio will be registered during commissioning. The initial Quality Assurance test will have been booked in advance by the Support Centre.
